Meticulously detailed, with fine embellishment — a cream cotton silk saree printed with flowering branches and perched songbirds: blue, russet and gold birds among wild-rose blooms and fine green foliage, in the hand-painted idiom rather than a repeating geometric print. Small stones are set at the centre of the larger blooms so the flowers catch the light. The pallu breaks into a soft striped weave in teal, rust and cream, finished with tasselled ends.

Cotton silk is the sensible fabric for a long daytime function — it breathes like cotton but hangs with a little more weight and sheen. This is a saree for a festive lunch, a mehndi or a temple visit, where you want something detailed to look at up close without the heat of a heavy silk. It comes with a matching striped blouse piece.
